Despite the badly damaged roads, the residents of Zeelandia community on the island of Wakenaam had a special visit from Santa and a team of helpers.
The children and seniors were treated to gifts and hampers as the tractor, which was transformed into a sleigh, drove around bearing the gifts for the communities.
The team responsible for ushering in more joy to the festive season is known as “We got ayyo back”. It has been in existence for the past eight years conducting shows in Canada and the US.
From their overseas and local investors and the funds that they receive from the shows, the group fosters development of the communities when the members return to Guyana.
Wakenaam is an island of about 17.5 square miles. It is one of the largest islands in the Essequibo Islands group. It is characterized by green vegetation, and cool breeze from the Atlantic.
