Dec 21, 2018 Letters
I read in Wednesday’s edition (SN 19th December, 2018) that Carl Parker will be returning to Region Nine as REO. What a news! I know the Regional Chairman and his Vice must be having looseness of bowels right now. He is their worst nightmare.
So understandably, they have started to make moves to prevent his return. As I write this letter, I am aware that the Regional Chairman is penning a letter to His Excellency to stop Mr. Parker from returning. The government will have to be foolish to accede to his wishes, again.
As one walks the streets of Lethem, Mr. Parker’s return is whispered reverently among the ordinary citizens of this town. He showed them what real social cohesion was, unlike the Regional Chairman and the Party he represents.
It is no secret that the Chairman uses the government-provided vehicle to do his political work, sowing seeds of racism and anti-government sentiments in the villages. Mr. Parker will definitely reign in this mis-use of government resources.
The Chairman and his Vice are no match for this visionary gentleman; and they know it. They were literally riding the present REO who is apparently paralyzed with fear of these two racist, irrelevant political figures.
So much so that the Vice-Chairman, who sits on the Regional Tender Board, was allowed to give contracts to his wife, his father-in-law, and two of his brothers-in-law. You know that cannot happen under Mr. Parker; hence, the dread of his return.
Another issue is the misguided actions of Parker’s colleagues who, in an effort to get rid of him since they did not share his vision, played right into the hands of the Chairman and the PPP. Now it is interesting to note that these very detractors are relishing the return of Parker.
They thought that they were capable of reining in the PPP. The results of the last LGE tells the story: PNC, for the very first time in the history of Lethem, has lost an election of any kind in Lethem.
So the Chairman and his PPP can go to France. Lethem and Region Nine needs Mr. Parker and we will welcome him with open arms to stop this economic drought that has engulfed Lethem since his departure in March 2017.
I am calling on the government to be strong. The chairman’s party is not in power and they must be made to know their place. The only regret that I have is that his wife is not alive to witness this triumphant return. The PPP killed her, but not her spirit; she lives on.
Yours truly,
