Hundreds of incoming passengers at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) were greeted with a ‘Guyanese welcome’, courtesy of the Guyana Tourism Authority (GTA).
The visitors were delightedly surprised as they received a taste of traditional Guyanese black cake.
The initiative is an annual exercise carried out by the GTA.
Marketing and Communications Officer, Chevon Lim said that over the past few days, several teams have fanned out across the country at other ports of entry to welcome visitors in true Guyanese fashion, and to spread Christmas cheer, these include Moleson Creek Crossing and the Ogle International Airport.
“This is to spread Christmas cheer, show visitors that we are hospitable and to share our tradition of black cake” Lim stated.
Additionally, Lim explained that the initiative also helps improve tourism in the country. “We have been doing it for a number of years and, of course, it is a great booster especially with the word of mouth, people return and tell others, come to Guyana you have this warm welcome” Lim said.
She also highlighted the similar exercises are conducted on National Holidays celebrated in Guyana.
