Two teenagers are among four young men, including a teen who had recently escaped from the New Opportunity Corps have been remanded to jail. They appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver in the Blairmont Magistrate Court.
They were charged with several counts of robbery under arms, break and enter and larceny and simple larceny on West Coast Berbice.
The four are Marlon Vossey, called “Bud” 17, the NOC escapee and mastermind of Lot 31 No 5 village West Coast Berbice; Shaqualle Mc Donald, 17 of Plaisance, East Coast Demerara; Randolph Dover, 20, a seaman of South Sophia; and Gerald Chung 24, a taxi driver of 622 ‘A’ Field Sophia.
Prosecutor, Woman Police Corporal Racquel Mars, detailed the charges to the court. McDonald and Vossey are charged with simple larceny committed on Udesha Bridgelall on November 10, last, at No8 Village, West Coast Berbice.
Chung and Dover are charged with robbery committed on Ryan Khublall at Feroze Gas Station, No 6 Village WCB.
Vossy is charged with break and enter and larceny committed on Holly Bynoe, a housewife of No5 Village, West Coast Berbice.
Chung and McDonald are further charged with robbery under arms committed on Ganish Parsram at Feroze Gas Station No6 Village WCB.
McDonald and Vossey are also charged with robbery under arms committed on Mahendranauth Singh called “Cat Eye” a Businessman of Lot 1 B Cotton tree village West Coast Berbice. The victim was relieved of one gold chain and cash to the value of $446,000 on October 12.
McDonald, Vossey and Dover are further charged with break and enter and larceny committed on the jewellery shop of Cohesh Totram called “Carlon” a Businessman of Cotton Tree West Coast Berbice on 11th November
Vossey who hails from the area was touted as the mastermind and had reportedly invited the other criminals to the area.
The men after committing the act and hiding out for some time were on their way to Georgetown. They were using a back street in a vehicle driven by Chung to escape the Police roadblock at Weldaad when they were nabbed.
The police were on the lookout for the bandits and got word that some men were seen in a car driving through a back street in the area. The cops immediately sped to the area where the men were cornered and arrested. A number of items suspected to be stolen or illegally obtained were found in the vehicle.
In objecting to bail Corporal Mars cited the nature of the crime and that most of the men were not from the area. One had escaped from the NOC. The men had hidden after committing the acts and were on their way out of the jurisdiction when they were caught.
They are to return to court on December 24.
