Although the police force would have recorded an 18% decrease in serious crimes, citizens are still worried about the simple larcenies that are taking place in and around Georgetown.
According to a member of the public, “Since the East Bank Bus Park moved, it has come to a very remote area which hardly has any police around. It is difficult to be able to get transportation.”
This growing plight has caused persons to spend a longer time on the bus park which in turn may eventually expose that person to being a victim to thieves.
An incident was recently observed where a group of young men approached another, and quickly surrounded him. The group proceeded to relieve him of whatever valuables he had and ran away. The poor fellow who was left in shock slowly walked away.
A terrify video which was circulated on social media, showed two young men within the vicinity of Demico House by the Stabroek Market, approaching a young man. One grabbed him by the neck while the other took away his possessions.
Reports from persons who traverse that area frequently indicate that almost every night someone unfortunately falls prey to these criminal acts. Some persons even expressed fear of walking the streets of their own country as persons are hunting for what is not theirs.
The police force would have implemented measures to curb these acts in and around the Georgetown area. There are 24-hour patrols throughout housing schemes, busy areas and business places.
During the day and up to 7pm there are police on foot going through areas. Moreover persons can report criminal activities to the nearest police station to receive further assistance.
