Four Guyanese men were detained by Suriname authorities during a river patrol on Wednesday. The men were reportedly without a valid permit to fish in Surinamese waters.
A 48-horsepower outboard engine, a quantity of fishing nets, 22 kg of fish, two automotive, two gas cylinders, a cooler and the boat were seized.
A senior police source in Suriname relayed that the fishermen are expected to pay a fine and is to be released.
The fish seized will be donated to a children’s home in the Dutch country.
