A toddler has become the third child to die after he was crushed by a motor vehicle.
Dead is 15 months old Terrence Antonio Wilson of Lot 7 Zeelugt Housing Scheme, who was reportedly crushed by a truck in front of his yard.
This publication understands that the accident occurred around 6:00 am on the Zeelugt Access Road in the area.
Motor lorry GVV 368 driven by Ibraheem Gafar was reportedly selling cylinders of cooking gas and kerosene when it stopped at the dwelling place of the child.
The toddler’s grandfather reportedly exited the yard to buy a portion of kerosene when the child supposedly unknowing to anyone ventured out the yard
While driving off the truck reportedly hit baby Wilson. The child’s head was crushed by the left back wheel of the truck.
When the grandfather was questioned he stated that the child was allegedly left sleeping in his mother’s room.
The child’s grandmother explained that he was obese and that his grandfather would usually take him out in the morning to run (exercise).
However, on the morning of the incident the child was left “sleeping” as the grandfather went to buy kerosene.
The woman explained that “everyone was still in bed. It was really early and everything happened so quickly.”
She further stated that the child was probably looking for his grandfather so that they could have gone on their usual morning routine.
The driver of the truck has been taken into police custody to assist with on-going investigations.
This was recorded as the third fatal accident over the past six days: the first being Police Sergeant Joseph Elton Ambrose who was the victim of an accident on the Herstelling Public Road on Sunday night last and succumbed on Thursday last.
The second victim was Karchan Khemraj, 15, of Annandale who died on Monday last after being hit by a bus.
And the most recent before the toddler was 16-year-old Clay Docton Skybar of Mahdia who died as a result of a collision between a pick-up and a motor lorry and trailer.
