The New Guyana Revenue Authority Headquarters will be built at Turkeyen.
Minister of Finance, Winston Jordan, told the National Assembly this, as he answered questions for the motion of the approval for expenditures of the Ministry of Finance.
Jordan said that since the staff to be housed exceeds 1000 persons, the Ministry is looking to get a very large, functional building. He told the House that land has been identified in the Turkeyen area, and that concept designs are currently being developed.
Once Cabinet approves the designs, Jordan said that the government will use the “PPP framework” to solicit proposals for the construction of the building. If cabinet approves, the agency will have acquired a 10-acre campus.
In terms of cost, getting a large functional building will be challenging, Minister Jordan told the assembly.
Over the six years of occupation of the Camp Street building, owned by the National Insurance Scheme, GRA has been spending extensively to improve and maintain the structure. As of January 2018, the agency spent more than $1.2B with another $200M budgeted for other urgent works necessary to fix structural defects and other health and safety concerns.
GRA’s lease on the building at Camp Street is slated to end in 2022.
For the 2019 Budget, the agency has been granted $1.256B in capital expenditure for provision of buildings, software, vehicles, furniture and equipment, by the National Assembly.
