German’s Restaurant, one of the oldest establishments of its kind in Georgetown, yesterday, announced their alliance with the December 27 – 30 ExxonMobil/STAG Beer International Futsal tournament.
The tournament, hosted by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and organised by the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation, will see Morvant Caledonia AIA from Trinidad and Tobago, along with ZV All-Stars from Suriname, and a Brazilian side from the state of Sau Paulo, all invading Guyana to take on a National Select Futsal team and a representative each from Linden, West Demerara and Georgetown.
While handing over a cheque of an undisclosed amount at his entity’s Kingston location, Clinton Urling, proprietor of Germans Restaurant, sees his support as part of his social responsibility as a businessman, while adding that “sports reaches a wide cross-section of youths and fans over all, and here at Germans, we use any opportunity we get.”
According to Urling, the involvement of the Kashif and Shanghai Organisation was also one of the main reason for him supporting the tournament, and noted that his entity is “looking to both organisations (GFF and K&S) hosting a successful tournament and we’ll be back again next year.”
The winning side of the first International Futsal tournament to be hosted in Guyana, will pocket $1.2M, while second through fourth place will go home with $600,000, $300,000 and $100,000 respectively.
