Guyana Police Force football team continued their forward march when play continued in the second annual GT Beer, Candy Boss 8-a-side football competition in Berbice.
Police, who are the defending champions, had to work overtime to register a 5-3 win over Hopetown United of West Berbice when play continued on Friday with a double header under lights at the All Saints Scott Church Ground on Princess Elizabeth Road, New Amsterdam.
The game was a closely fought affair and could have gone either way with Hopetown opening the scoring as early as the 6th minute. At half time the score was 4-2 in favour of Police. Finding the back of the net for the Cops were Rawl Kaleb, in the 9th minute; Deon Rodney, in the 13th and 15th minutes; Dexroy Adams, in the 21st minute and Travis James, in the 45th minute.
Scoring for Hopetown were Tofa James in the 6th minute, Darrel Douglas in the 24th minute and Kevin Garraway in the 57th minute.
In the second game No5 of West Berbice broke the hearts of the Cougars U20 supporters when they defeated them 1-0 on penalty kicks after the game ended 0-0 at the end of the 60 minutes regulation time.
Action was scheduled to continue last evening with another double-header. Game one was scheduled to see Golden Stars taking on Rosignol United with Monedderlust meeting Soccer City in the second encounter.
The final is set for January 5, 2019 at the same venue.
A number of sponsors are on board with the winning team set to collect $600,000 and trophy, the second placed $300,000 and third place $200,000. There will also incentives of $50,000 each for the MVP, the best goal-keeper, and the most goal scorer.
