Jaguars storm to 126 run opening win in Regional Four-Day Championship

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados,– Guyana Jaguars stormed to a commanding 126 run victory on the fourth and final day of their day/night first round match in the Regional Four-Day Championship yesterday.
After closing the third day on 54-2 with 293 to get for a victory, the Windward Islands eventually folded for 222. Alick Athanaze stayed to the end of the innings to be not out on 64, while Dennis Smith made 38 in a stubborn fight back with Athanaze with five wickets down. Taryck Gabriel also made 34.
Scores: At the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium (Gros Islet): Volcanoes lost by 126 runs.
GUYANA JAGUARS 224 (Vishaul Singh 75, Romario Shepherd 44; Shane Shillingford 4-59) and 310 for four decl. (Tagenarine Chanderpaul 84 not out, Clinton Pestano 69, Chris Barnwell 61 not out, Leon Johnson 51).
WINDWARD ISLANDS VOLCANOES 187 (Delorn Johnson 34 not out, Alick Athanaze 34; Clinton Pestano 4-46, Veerasammy Permaul 3-2) and 222 (Alick Athanaze 64 not out, Dennis Smith 38, Taryck Gabriel 34).
