Two persons were killed after the motorcycle on which they were travelling slammed into a jeep near Ogle, East Coast Demerara.
Dead are pillion rider Rameshwar Singh, 18, of Lot 6, Area B’ Cummings lodge, East Coast Demerara and 20 year-old Jason Harris of Campbellville, Georgetown.
According to information, Harris the owner of motorcycle CJ 6360, and his friend, Singh, slammed into motor jeep PGG 8844, which was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the East Coast Demerara public road. As the driver of the jeep approached the Ogle junction, he reportedly signalled that he was about to turn into the Ogle Access road.
However, Harris, who was proceeding west along the East Coast Demerara public road, attempted to negotiate a turn and slammed into the jeep.
The two friends sustained multiple injuries.
They were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital where the pillion rider was pronounced dead on arrival.
Harris was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, but died hours later.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver of the jeep revealed that he had no alcohol in his blood.
He is currently assisting police with investigations.
Four days ago, David Aulder, another motorcyclist, died after he collided with a minibus on the Non Pariel Public Road, East Coast Demerara.
According to information, the minibus driver was proceeding west along the southern carriageway of the Non Pariel Public Road, while Aulder, a local fashion model, was proceeding north along the Coldigen Access Road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed.
It was reported that on approaching the intersection, the motorcyclist failed to stop, turned east and proceeded along the southern side of Non Pariel Public Road, which is against the one way. Aulder subsequently collided with the minibus.
He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the minibus, and he was found to be over the legal limit.
