Banks DIH continues it branding of the Upper Demerara Football Association’s year-end football spectacle and for this President of the UDFA Terrence Mitchell is more than grateful.
Mitchell at the launch Saturday expressed the association’s indebtedness to the beverage distributors as they continue to give support to the development in the mining town.
The Linden Branch Supervisor Shawn Grant extended the hope that the tournament will be played not only for its competitiveness but also a great deal of respect for the rules of the game.
Grant’s highlighting of the aspect of discipline set the stage for the UDFA President Terrence Mitchell to chime in, emphasizing the need for teams to be disciplined as he singled out the Christianburg club Eagles United which recently won the Senior League tournament and was spot on time for the launch yesterday with their full complement of players and officials.
Mitchell challenged the other clubs to set the example of the Eagles Club.
The UDFA boss said it was a privilege and joy for us to be here at our 6th edition of the UDFA GT Beer tournament.
He added, “I think the idea that we have a running sixth tournament is commendable and I do hope that it continues for a long time to come.” Noting that the tournament was a platform for the players and clubs to showcase what they are made of.
He saw the annual tournament as one that one must build on for the sport.
Treasurer of the UDFA Aswatt Barrett opined that, “This tournament is comprehensively structured of promoting the sport and football in all aspects.”
He continued, “The UDFA is in partnership with Banks DIH in guaranteeing the success of this tournament.”
The tournament started yesterday with the official opening and March past followed by games featuring Eagles United against new club Capital FC and Silver Shattas versus Net Rockers.
