Twenty-six-year-old David Aulder died yesterday afternoon when according to eyewitnesses, he rode his motorcycle head-on into a minibus on the Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara Public road.
Aulder, of Lot 254 Section ‘A’ Non Pareil, ECD was riding his motorcycle, CJ 193, in an Easterly direction on the Non Pariel Public Road when he collided with minibus BRR 9843 which was being driven by a resident of Mon Repos ECD, in the direction of Georgetown.
Police in a statement said, “As a results of the collision, the cyclist lost control and fell onto the roadway and received injuries. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”
Police also conducted a breathalyzer test on the driver and he was found to above the legal limit, the man was immediately taken into custody where he is assisting with the investigation.
The incident, which occurred about 15:30 hours, showed the importance of motorcyclists wearing their safety helmets, with some witnesses claiming the man may have survived the crash if he had been wearing a helmet, since most of his injuries appeared to be to the head.
