The body of 69-year-old George Dove who resides at Lot 1 La Bagatelle, Leguan, Essequibo was seen floating at the La Bagatelle foreshore around 06:45 hours Saturday.
Police enquiries disclose that on November 20, last, about 10:00 hours, the now deceased man left home for his farm which is located at Parika Backdam where he would normally spend two to three weeks and then return home.
On Friday, about 18:30 hours, the deceased was seen by Juliet Augustus, a teacher of La Bagatelle, Leguan, at the Leguan wharf, lying on the ground, apparently highly intoxicated.
The woman who knows Dove then offered to take him home but he refused. Augustus then went to the man’s home to inform his wife, Ann Ramroach Singh, who is a Security guard, but the woman wasn’t at home.
Reports are that it is a regular habit for Dove to drink alcohol and fall into trenches.
The man’s body was taken to the Leguan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
When the body was fished out of the water abrasions were seen on the head and left side of the body.
Investigators suspected that those abrasions occurred while the body was in the water and bracing the rocks.
The body is at the Leguan Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination.
