A 23-year-old woman who is accused of setting fire to her lover’s stall located at the Stabroek Market Wharf, had wounding charges against her dismissed yesterday, after the man refused to give evidence.
The woman, Quiana Major, of Tucville, Georgetown appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday. Her lover, Compton Ferreira, also known as ‘Chop Up’ also appeared.
The unrepresented woman pleaded not guilty to the charge, which alleged that on November 26, last at Stabroek Market Wharf, Georgetown, she unlawfully and maliciously wounded Ferreira.
Major was accused of stabbing her spouse twice, a few weeks ago, and then allegedly setting his stall on fire at the Stabroek Market Wharf.
The case was not allowed to go further as Ferreira stood before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and said that he did not wish to proceed with the matter.
Questioned as to why he came to this decision, Ferreira told the court that he had only received a ‘slight wound’ from the knife allegedly used by his lover.
The matter was later dismissed. However, no charges were laid against Mayor for arson, as the matter is currently still being investigated.
It was reported that around 04:00 hrs on November 26, last, Major and Ferreira, who is a fish vendor at the wharf, were involved in a domestic dispute. During that time, Ferreira reportedly refused to give Major money that she had requested.
She allegedly stabbed him twice to his abdomen with a knife. According to reports, Major allegedly set Ferreira’s stall on fire when he left to report the matter.
