Day three of the Diamond Mineral Water (DMW) International Hockey Festival saw some big wins for Trinidad and Tobago’s (T&T) Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) and Ventures hockey club, while the rivalry between the local clubs reached the boiling point.
GGC’s Vintage Alan Fernandes who scored a brace in the team’s over-35 division win over Antonio’s Hickers.
Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) 13-0 Shacar (Men’s division)
QPCC of T&T continued where they left off on Thursday night after defeating Bounty GCC 5-1 to make light work of Shacar (a mixed team of T&T players) in their first match yesterday. T&T national, Jeraeno Belle banged in a four goals in the win, while Shawn Lee Quay supported with a hat-trick. There were braces from Aiden DeGannes and Mahinder Malli, while Darren Cowie and Michael Durity netted one goal each.
Old Fort 3-1 Antonio’s Hickers (Over 35)
John Abrahams, Solomon Eccles of T&T and Evan Low scored one goal each for the local club which was formed in the year 1975 before Maria Munroe netted the consolation for Hickers.
GBTI GCC 3-0 Old Fort (Women’s Division)
The usual suspects of reigning sportswoman of the year, Marzana Fiedtkou, Skipper Sonia Jardine and the prolific Gabriella Xavier each netted one goal in a very routine win over OFHC.
Shandy Carib Magnolia 5-3 Ventures (Women)
GBTI GCC’s Gabriella Xavier is struck on the leg from a powerful penalty corner strike from Venture’s during their open women’s clash last night.
In this all T&T clash, five different ladies got on the score sheet for Magnolia in Savannah DeFreitas, Britney Hingh, Sarah Olton, Shaniah DeFreitas and Kaitlyn Olton.
QPCC 9-0 Carib (over-35)
Jerazeno Belle took his tally to nine goals from two games played in this all-T&T encounter.
Old Fort 8-0 Shacar (men’s open)
Teenage sensation Omar Hopkinson, who was promoted from St. Jospeh’s Hockey Club Old Fort’s senior team, showed great maturity to outwit the islanders to lead his team’s scoring.
GCC Vintage 5-3 Fatima (over 35)
National women’s coach, Dwayne Scott and Kevin Spencer both netted braces, while Patrick Edghill found the back of the net once to help the veteran GCC Vintage the Trinidadians a rare defeat on the day. Richard Downie, Alan Young, Colin Young each scored one for the Fatima.
Ventures 10-2 Saints (women)
Arielle Williams scored a hat-trick while Kristin Thompson, Krizia Layne and Lindsay Williams each scored a brace.
QPCC 8-4 Fatima (over-35)
Jerazeno Belle took his tally to 13 goals with his second helmet-trick of the day’s play, while Raphael Govia supported his teammate with a brace in the huge win.

Pepsi Hikers 5-2 Old Fort (men)
A brace by Jamarj Assanah led the scoring for national champions Hikers over Old Fort in the men’s open division round robin stage. Shane Samuels of Old Fort was sure to let Old Fort’s manager John Abrahams have it with some friendly banter.
Saints 1-1 Old Fort (women)
Skipper Tekeisha DeLeon scored early for in the first half for Saints before a second half penalty corner from Old Fort’s skipper Minsodia Culpepper equalised the proceedings.
The competition will resumes today from 09:00hrs with more round-robin action with the semifinals and finals set for tomorrow at CASH.
