World renowned Guyanese commentator Joseph ‘Reds’ Pereira will be the manager of a four-member boxing team that will be flying down to the ‘land of many waters’ for next week’s Caribbean Boxing Championships (CBC) which is being dubbed as the ‘Caribbean International Nuff Cuff’ tournament which will be contested at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
In a correspondence, ‘Reds’ explained that his squad will include the likes of seasoned campaigners Nathan Ferrari and Linden Mursalin, while the St. Lucia boxing board are currently seeking permission to have a 14-year-old youth boxer released from the school system to compete in Guyana
In addition to St. Lucia, the Island of Dominica has confirmed their participation to the host of this event, which has formerly been known as the Caribbean Development Tournament (CDT) which was first hosted in Guyana in 2015 at the National Gymnasium. Dominica is seeking to send a six-member contingent inclusive of three fighters, a referee, coach and manager.
In other news from visiting teams, the twin island republic of Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) has announced that their initial large 24-member contingent has increased to 38 inclusive of four referees and a doctor.
The CBC tournament is set for four days of anticipated fistic action from 18:00hrs at CASH. Admission to the venue each night will cost $500 in the stands, while ringside will cost $1000.
Head of the GBA, Steve Ninvalle, has shared with Kaieteur Sport that all systems are in place for the smooth running of the event which will have its weigh-in this Thursday.
