The recently resuscitated Edinburgh Warriors Cricket Club of Edinburgh East Bank Berbice was recently the beneficiary of a set of cricket gear. The club was recently resuscitated by overseas based Guyanese Mr. Egbert Lyken-Edwards and his wife Maureen Lyken-Edwards who received the donation from The West Indian Sports Complex of Robb Street, Lacytown Georgetown.
Among the items received were two pairs of batting pads, two pairs of batting gloves, two cricket balls (1 red and 1 white) and two bat faces.
Apart from the items donated, the club got reduced prices on: two cricket bats, one helmet, three medals and a quantity of bat oil.
The presentation was made by Miss Rafeena Ganie on behalf of the West Indian Sports Complex. She expressed delight that the company has been given the opportunity to work with and continued to support the Edinburgh Warriors Cricket Club.
In expressing his appreciation Mr. Lyken Edwards thanked the principals of the WI Sports Complex for their kind gesture in coming to the aid of the club.
The move to resuscitate the club began on the 9th September 2018 with eight members. Now it has over 70 members registered. The club has grown rapidly and now has an under 15’s under 17’s an under 19’s and a 2nd Division team. Efforts are being made to restart a first division team in the area.
The executives of the club are President- Egbert Lyken-Edwards, Vice President- Denoraine Seeparsaud, Secretary-Maureen Lyken-Edwards, Treasurer-Jennifer Mahadeo, Assistant Treasurer- Maureen Le, Fixture secretary is Denoraine. In charge of fundraising are Mrs Sanicharn assisted by Steve Seeparsaud.
The player representatives are Raymond Ituaru and Totaram Sanicharn.
Mr. Lyken-Edwards was accompanied to the presentation by the Club Secretary Maureen Lyken-Edwards, Club members Raymond Itwaru, Jerome Andrews and Lomar Shan Sanichara. (Samuel Whyte)
