On Monday afternoon, police acting on information, went to Princes and High Streets, where they intercepted a silver-coloured Toyota Premio bearing registration plates, HC6573.
The car was parked close to the Infiniti Gas Station. They arrested three males who were interrogated. They led police to a second car which had radio sets that would have allowed them to tune into police radio frequencies.
This car was found in Peter’s Hall next to the Guyana Water Inc facility. It has been detained after the police found out that it was linked to the robbery, probably owned by one of the men in custody.
The police action came in the wake of a robbery of a businesswoman who was tracked by bandits from the Ogle Airport and then robbed of a package that she had just collected at the airport.
The businesswoman, who operates a taxi service in Seaforth Street, Campbellville, received a call on Monday morning from her mother in Region One to collect a package from the Ogle Airport.
The woman said she arrived at the airport around 10:40 hours and spent about five minutes before collecting the package and leaving. She said that she then drove to her home at Chateau Margot, East Coast Demerara.
The woman claimed that she was in the vicinity of Pigeon Island, when she noticed a silver-coloured car following close behind. She said she stopped to let the car pass, but the vehicle came up alongside and stopped in a position that did not allow her to move.
A man quickly exited the other car with a gun in his hand, and discharged one shot at her car window that was closed at the time. Immediately after doing so, he shouted, “Wheh de package wid de money deh?”
The woman said the package contained two letters, one bottle of cologne, and approximately $90,000 in cash.
The driver of the silver-coloured Premio was Casey Chapman, a 27-year-old taxi driver of South Sophia. The other occupants were Adam McDonald, a 30-year-old miner of South Amelia’s Ward, Linden; and Sheldon Andrews, a 24-year-old taxi driver of West Ruimveldt.
They are all in police custody.
When they were arrested at Princes and High Streets a search of the car unearthed one black and silver 9mm pistol with twelve rounds of matching ammunition, and a black .32 Taurus Pistol with seven matching rounds of ammunition.
There was also a pair of ‘paste on’ car tags (PRR 4987).
The woman was convinced that the whole incident was a set-up, since CCTV footage from the airport showed a Silver Toyota Premio going to the airport at 10:30 hours. The woman’s car came in at 10:40 hours and spent five minutes then left.
One of the men arrested on Monday, Adam McDonald was formally charged on October, 2, 2015 for committing a robbery at Parade Street, Kingston.
