Melissa Andrews, 30, of Swan Village, Kuru Kururu Soesdyke/Linden Highway is in a critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation after being brutally chopped yesterday by her partner, 39-year-old Ian English of 11 Kuru Kururu Squatting Area. Her assailant then committed suicide.
An eyewitness to the brutality told Kaieteur News that English and Andrews had an argument around lunch time, over infidelities in their relationship. One neighbour at the time was talking to the couple, when English armed himself with a cutlass and dealt Andrews a number of chops about her body.
The woman fell to the ground and English made good his escape.
Andrews was rushed to the Diamond Regional Hospital where she received initial treatment and was then transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where she was admitted in a critical condition.
Andrews was accompanied by one of her sisters to GPHC. When Kaieteur News caught up with the woman’s sister, this publication was informed that Andrews had a gaping wound to the back of her neck and also had chops to her hands.
The woman’s sister said, “I think she lose some fingers. He chop she up bad.”
When asked what might have triggered the brutal attack, the sister claimed not to know a reason for the attack.
Police investigations revealed that the Andrews and English shared a relationship for about four years. That relationship saw the birth of one child.
Yesterday English armed with a cutlass inflicted several chops about Andrews’s body. Andrews fell to the ground and English left. He was later found with a cement sling around his neck, hanging from a tree about 200 meters in the bushes with the cutlass near to him.
The scene was photographed by the Crime Unit. Several persons were interviewed and statements taken. English’s body has been taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour where it is awaiting a Post Mortem Examination.
Up to press time Andrews was undergoing surgery. She was still listed as critical.
