Some last minutes transportation difficulties with the boat that was supposed to ferry the Two Upper Corentyne River teams to the coast to participate in the ongoing GT Beer, Candy Boss and Antics Promotion 8-A-Side Invitational Knockout Football Tournament forced the teams to miss the encounters with teams from the coast.
Two teams Orealla Falcons and Siparuta were supposed to engage Hopetown Football Club and Monedderlust, both of West Coast Berbice, in the ongoing tournament at the All Saints Scott’s Church Ground, Princess Elizabeth and Vryheid Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.
However, when all was ready and set to go the two teams failed to show up and information reaching the coast stated that the boat encountered last minute difficulties. Efforts to get a replacement vessel proved futile due to some prior engagements with that vessel due to a funeral and other activities in the area.
The two teams which have always been a part of football activities on the coast were travelling over 60 miles to get to the venue to participate in the competition. No matches were played during the last weekend as the organisers seek to make some rearrangements. It is not clear if the organisers would grant a walk over of reschedule the games.
Some 32 teams from across the country are participating in this year’s competition which is in its second year.
Matches are scheduled to be played on Friday and Sundays with the final set for Sunday January 5th 2019 at the same venue.
The coordinator is Tito “Candy Boss” Sancho. (Samuel Whyte)
