Charges have been recommended against four firefighters, including a senior rank, for stealing valuables from the Fly Jamaica aircraft that crash-landed on November 9 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.
The recommendations were made by the Police Legal Advisor who returned the file yesterday to the police. The accused ranks are scheduled to appear in court this week.
Fourteen firefighters were initially detained.
One of the ranks who served in a supervisory capacity had admitted to taking two cell phones. He handed the items over to the police.
Although other stolen articles were found in a fire truck, the other ranks had reportedly denied stealing anything.
Investigators had said that they needed the victims to identify and estimate the value of the items, which included cash, jewellery, tablets, cell phones and colognes.
The theft came to light after the pilot reported that items were missing from the cockpit.
A flight attendant also reported missing perfume.
One of the firefighters then returned two cell phones that he had already stashed in his vehicle.
Other items, including colognes, were then found in a fire truck.
