A pleading 21-year-old Steve Williams found himself being slapped with three charges yesterday for robbery under arms.
Williams who made an appearance before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts pleaded not guilty to all three charges that were read to him.
It was alleged that on November 23, 2018 at Bamboo Landing North West District, being armed with a handgun, he stole three ounces of raw gold valued at $660,000; $320,000 cash, a cosmetic valued at $20,000 and one bottle of rum valued at $12,000 property of Debeish Stoll.
It was further alleged that on November 24, 2018 at Hell Hill, Matthew’s Ridge Williams had in his possession one 9mm pistol while not being the holder of a firearm licence.
Also it was alleged that on November 24, 2018 at Hell Hill, Matthew’s Ridge Williams had in his possession 9mm ammunition while not being the holder of a firearm licence.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on the day in question Williams entered the business premises of Stoll at 06:00hrs via a back window. While armed with a handgun he demanded the victim to hand over all gold and money she had in her possession.
In fear, the victim handed over the articles. After collecting the articles Williams made good his escape into nearby bushes. Stoll later made a report at the Matthew’s Ridge Police Station.
Police ranks acting on information arrested Williams the following day, November 24, and questioned him after which he took them to Hell Hill where $86,600 in cash and 28 penny weights of raw gold along with the firearm and one round of ammunition were recovered.
Further investigation was carried out and the charges were instituted.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan asked Williams whether he had anything to say before sentence was passed. Williams responded in a pleading voice, “Please see with me because I have my mother to take care of and as you can see I didn’t waste your time.”
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan then sentenced Williams to two years’ imprisonment for the robbery charge, two years’ imprisonment and $50,000 fine for the possession of firearm and two years’ imprisonment and $50,000 fine for the possession of ammunition.
The sentences will run concurrently.
