Romario Balget called “Short Boss” has been admitted once again at a private hospital after suffering a seizure, this was related to the court by Special Prosecutor, Latchmi Rahamat, when the matter involving his alleged assailant was called yesterday.
Abdul Imran Khan is currently on remand after being charged for attempting to kill Balget.
Khan, 31, of 11 Austin Street, Campbellville, was not required to plead to the indictable charge, which alleged that on October 28, last, at Main Street, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Romario Balget.
Yesterday when the matter was called in the courtroom of Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, the Special Prosecutor told the court that Balget was admitted to a private institution last Sunday after suffering a seizure.
The Prosecutor added that Khan is awaiting a CT scan, since it is believed that he might have suffered a fracture skull during the beating, which is the likely cause of the seizure.
However, this did not sit too well with Attorney Glen Hanoman, who is representing the defendant.
Hanoman in a renewed bail application, asked the court to grant his client bail, citing that the Prosecutor has not been able to provide the court with a medical certificate to support the injuries Balget allegedly sustained at the hands of his client.
The lawyer went on to tell the court that persons have seen Balget partying in night clubs around Georgetown. He added that he too saw Balget walking around the city.
Hanoman further argued that it is strange that only when the matter is scheduled to be called, Balget is hospitalised.
This, Hanoman opined, is the main reason why his client is not being granted bail for the offence.
Magistrate McLennan after listening to both sides, instructed Rahamat to disclose all documents in relation to the matter, to the defence, on December 10.
Khan was instructed to make his next court appearance on the same day, when he will appear before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
According to information, on the day in question around 02:00 hrs, Balget went to the Palm Court night club on Main Street where he and his friends spent an hour.
It was reported that as Balget and his friends were about to leave the nightclub, Khan and some other men were standing at the gateway. As a result, Balget and his friends walked between Khan and his friends.
The court heard that Khan became annoyed and dealt Balget several punches to his head and face, causing him to sustain injuries.
Khan then allegedly continued to cuff and kick Balget, while Balget was lying on the ground in an unconscious state. He then is alleged to have picked up a bottle and slashed Balget across the right side of his face.
The injured man was rushed to a private hospital where he underwent two emergency surgeries for the facial wounds.
