Led by contrasting centuries from Navindra Persaud and Wazeer Hussain, Gandhi Youth Organisation (GYO) defeated Diplomats by 209 runs, while Ace Warriors overcame Sophia by five wickets when the Georgetown Cricket Association/New Building Society Second Division 40-over tournament continued on Saturday.
Persaud struck 110, while Hussain slammed 141 as host GYO piled up a mammoth 379-5, batting first. Persaud added 134 for the second wicket with T. Liverpool after GYO lost opener Michael Deonarine for 19. Persaud struck 14 fours and one six before he was dismissed by R. Mohamed, while Liverpool hit nine fours and two sixes in scoring 70.
Hussain attacked from the onset and frustrated their opponents; he stroked 15 fours and six sixes before he was bowled by D. Fraser in the later stages of the innings.
H. Blackman claimed 2-57, while there was one each for R. Mohamed, R. Gill and D. Fraser.
Spinner Divesh Ramjattan then produced an incisive spell to help bowl out Diplomats for 170 in reply. A. Foster made 33, while K. Fraser contributed 26 and H. Blackman and D. Fraser 22 each. Ramjattan finished with 4-33, while Trevon France had 2-22.
At Everest, Sophia took first strike and were sent packing for 84 in 21 overs. C. Seepaul made 29 as Clayon Halley picked up 3-4 from two overs, Yukini Favourite 3-19 from six overs and Murtland Ward 2-17 off six.
Ace Warriors responded with 85-5 in 17 overs. Selwin Collier struck 33 not out while Roger Aaron made 17 and Favourite 14.
