As preparations push ahead for the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee inaugural Race of Champions Horse Racing meet on Sunday December 2 at the Port Mourant Turf Club in Corentyne, Berbice from 12 noon, the organisers are putting systems in place for a smooth race day. They are asking the horse owners and jockeys, grooms, trainers and all association with the participants to cooperate with them and the rules put in place to ensure the day’s events are run in a timely and orderly fashion.
The organisers have informed that entries that are printed will be permanent and no hand written entries will be made to the programme. They are calling on owners to notify them on the events they plan to participate in prior to race day and printing of the programmes. This move will aid in saving time in the case of jockeys having to be reweighed and confusing the fans with the chopping and changing of the original programme.
To this end the committee will start all races on the specified time listed and owners are asked to ensure their charges are ready for their races. To enforce the timeliness of proceedings, the committee will disqualify horses from the card if the jockeys cannot be weighed, horses saddled and mounted within ten (10) minutes of post time. They are also saying that they will be forced to terminate or cancel a race from the programme if none of the horses are ready for the start of an event ten minutes prior. The organisation is looking ahead to bring the sport in line with international standards.
The upcoming programme features several exciting races with the main event featuring a rematch between Vera’s Finally and Just call me boss at the only track Vera’s Finally has lost a race in Guyana.
