Coming off of Guyana’s excellent showing at the 2019 Senior Caribbean Table Tennis Championships (CTTC) which concluded in Jamaica one month
ago, four of the nation’s top players in Natalie Cummings, Joel Alleyne, Nigel Bryan and Elsihaba Johnson will depart these shores today for China where they will participate in one (1) month of high level training at Hebei Zhengding’s table tennis training centre.
The four-member contingent will travel on Caribbean Airlines at 10:20hrs this morning to Fort Lauderdale where they will fly to China via Delta Airlines with estimated time of arrival in China on Sunday at 17:10hrs.
According to a release from the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), this high-level table tennis training programme being offered to eight of Guyana’s national table tennis team is facilitated through the support of the Government of the People’s Republic of China Embassy Guyana through current technical and diplomatic engagements with the GTTA, Government of Guyana (GoG) and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This training critical and is aimed at supporting and improving the performance and development of table tennis in the land.
The GTTA had selected Miguel Wong, Nicholas Romain, Kyle Edghill and Jamal Nicholas as the other members to benefit from the exchange programme but they will be the second batch to benefit from the programme in the not so distant future.
The Hebei Zhengding International Table Tennis Club has a repertoire of high level and quality players and coaches; it is the centre for China’s national table tennis team and many international players and has a tradition of producing world level players at the junior and senior levels.
The programmes offered are very intense, players train and practice eight (8) hours a day, benefiting from a wide range of coaching expertise, a variety of top-level players and practice partners, competitive matches playing in leagues, which allows players to develop their technical and tactical proficiency transitioning them to reach and exploit their fullest potential.
With Guyana scheduled to host the 2019 CTTC and based on the International Table Tennis Federation assigning that competition as the Pan American games qualification event which is one of the key qualification events for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, this training camp has come at an opportune time.

ambassador His Excellency Cui Jian Chun; Chinese Ambassador to Guyana and Mrs. Wang Qiuyi, Minister of State; Joseph Harmon, the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), Guyana Power Producers and Distributors (PPDI), Dwayne Munroe, Dominion Enterprises, Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and all who would have assisted in making this venture a reality.
