Annandale fired five unanswered goals past a hapless Dolphin Secondary School football team yesterday during play in the inaugural
Guyoil/Tradewind Tankers School Football League at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground on Carifesta Avenue.
The East Coast Demerara team which have a total of five players that have worn national colours were enjoying themselves and exercising their superior skills in an almost mocking fashion as they maintained their perfect win record of eight from eight matches contested, taking their points tally to 24 and their goal difference to +26. Colin Henriques (two goals) led the scoring for Annandale that have two tough remaining games against third place Christianburg/Wismar Secondary School (CWSS) who have 20 points and second place Lodge (24 points).
Lodge Secondary, which were top of the table after leading Annandale by a one-goal margin prior to yesterday’s match day, were scheduled to be in action against St. Rose’s High in the feature clash yesterday evening but a no-show by the Church
Street team that have registered one win from eight games played, robbed the inform team the opportunity of matching Annandale’s tally of five scored yesterday, to retain their top spot. The walkover granted Lodge three points and two goals, as stipulated in the rules of the league.
Annandale’s Skipper Harrigan noted after his side’s 5-0 win in the reduced 20-minute per half clash against Dolphin that although his team are playing well there are still areas that need improvement and with three matches remaining, his troops need to hold their focus to clinch the league title.
