On Wednesday evening, dense smoke engulfed the interior of the bottom flat of the building located at Third Street and First Avenue, Bartica,
currently housing the Church’s Chicken Fast Food Outlet.
Residents and customers said that the surface of the chimney became overheated, and coupled with the chemical nature of an oily residue coat that had accumulated over time, this caused the smoky atmosphere.
The local Bartica chapter of the Guyana Fire Service and Guyana Police Force were expeditiously at the scene and successfully contained the situation.
