The historic Port Mourant Cricket Ground which produced seven Test Cricketers would on Sunday come alive when the Berbice Cricket Board hosts the Final of the Pepsi 50-Overs First Division Round Robin Tournament. Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets led by former National Under-19 Captain Shawn Pereira would clash with the Seon Hetmyer led Young Warriors for Championship honours.
Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets, the dominant First Division Team in Berbice during 2018, easily defeated Blairmont Community Centre by 112 runs at the Area ‘H’ Ground in the first semifinal, while Young Warriors Cricket Club got past Port Mourant by 33 runs in the second Semifinal at the Cumberland Ground. Young Warriors Cricket Club just two months ago were a dormant Cricket Club and this Tournament has been a dream return for the Anil Beharry led organisation.
On paper, Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets have the stronger team in batting and bowling but the Young Warriors Cricket Team made up their short coming with passion and committment under the inspirational leadership of Seon Hetmyer, the older brother of West Indies batting star Shimron Hetmyer. They would depend heavily on National Under-19 player Alex Algoo, Vishal Mohabir, former national junior all rounder Linden Lewis, Hetmyer, Berbice Under-19 player Trevlon Stanislaus and the talented Ricardo Ramdihal to put runs on the board against a strong Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets bowling attack that would include Clinton Pestano, Sylus Tyndall, Kevin Sinclair, Shawn Pereira, Junior Sinclair, Jonathan Rampersaud, Eon Hooper who all have national experience at either the junior or senior level. Berbice Under-19 left arm spinner Keith Simpson offers a variety as well, along with medium pacer Kevlon Anderson.
The Rose Hall Town Gizmos & Gadgets batting line up would be spearheaded by the productive opening pair of Kevin and Junior Sinclair, the highly talented Kevlon Anderson who scored a brilliant century in the semifinals, Pestano, Vidal Crandon, Chanderpaul Govindan, Hooper and the promising fifteen years old Jonathan Rampersaud who has cemented himself in the team. Young Warriors Cricket Team bowling attack would be spearheaded by medium pacer Suresh Dhanai and left arm Devindra Ramoutar. Left arm spinners Kassim Khan, Trevlon Stanislaus, offspinner Linden Austin and legspinner Ricardo Ramdihal would offer crucial support along with the tidy medium pace of Hetmyer.
The match starts at 09.30 hours and the Winner would take home $100,000, while the Runner-up would get $50,000.
