After dismissing Vishaul Singh’s X1 for 277 on day two of their rain interrupted first of a two three-day practice games, Leon Johnson’s X1 fell for 378
when bails were lifted at Everest yesterday.
Robin Bacchus (55) and Bhaskar Yadram (56) got half centuries with an 86-run last wicket partnership between Clinton Pestano (46) and Ramaal Lewis (46*) got Singh’s X1 to a competitive first innings total as Renaldo Ali-Mohammed, Gudakesh Motie, Christopher Barnwell and Kevin Sinclair picked two wickets each.
Yesterday in strong wind on a track which had more bounce and played much better than it did previously, Johnson’s XI began on 82-1 after Rajendra Chandrika (19), who played the supporting role in an 82 run stand with Griffith, was LBW to Anthony Adams just before the rain affected second day ended.
Skipper Johnson (17) and Griffith, who spanked Pestano four consecutive boundaries, took the score to 166 with another half-century stand on a fairly fast outfield despite Tuesday’s rain before off-spinner Lewis removed them both.
He first dismissed Johnson at 166-2 and Griffith who fell for a commanding 117 from 92 balls with 18 fours and a six.
Lewis struck again when he removed Barnwell (11) on the stroke of Lunch with the score on 189-5.
Sinclair and fellow Berbician Anthony Bramble took the score to 232 with a 43-run stand before Sinclair
(19) was taken at leg-slip before Joshua Persaud (0) was removed in a similar fashion as Yadram struck twice in the space of five runs.
Ali-Mohammed joined the set Bramble as the branches on the Coconut trees just beyond the Northern boundary swayed in the strong Atlantic breeze and Ali-Mohammed was outscoring Bramble under dark and angry clouds as conditions quickly became very overcast.
Bramble swivelled and pulled Romario Shepherd for four while Ail-Mohammed slog-swept Lewis for six after a top edged hook was dropped at long-leg by Antiguan Franchise pick left arm pacer Javier Spencer.
Ali-Mohammed added insult to injury by lofting Spencer, who had a bad day in the field and looked nervous, back over his head for six before depositing Lewis for a couple of massive sixes.
But with their stand worth 81 Ali-Mohammed, whose 54 was decorated with four boundaries, which included a couple of sixes, was run out at 318-8.
Kevin Sinclair turns Jamaican off-spinner Ramaal Lewis (4-56) just past short-leg at Everest yesterday.
After smashing six fours in a well compiled 75, Bramble became the third batsman to be caught at leg slip as the tall and burly Yadram got bounce and turn to leave the score on 343-9.
But Motie hammered three fours and two sixes in a confident 42 before Lewis wrapped up the innings at which time the game was called in fading light as a draw.
With the sun playing a cat and mouse game with the clouds, Yadram had three wickets and supported Lewis who finished with four scalps.
Today the players will have a practice session at Everest before being involved in their final three-day practice game at Providence from next Wednesday before the team travel to St Lucia for their first game against the Windwards from December 6-9 is selected. (Sean Devers)
