The Regional Member Associations contemplating this move are East Bank and West Demerara.
GFF President’s commented: “It is important to consolidate the end of year football activities as we seek to streamline our annual football calendar. This year’s competition format allows each association to not only participate but to benefit in a tangible way from the success of the tournament.”
The proposed dates for the playoffs are November 30th and December 2nd with Group Stage matches set for December 14th, 16th and 23rd; quarter finals December 25th and 26th; Semi finals December 29th and final on January 1st, 2019.
The first placed team will walk away with Two Million Dollars; losing finalist One Million, 3rd place $500,000 all with trophies and equipment attached. The 4th placed team will also receive a trophy and equipment.
Ansa McAl STAG Brand Coordinator Nigel Worrell said that his company is on board in a partnership arrangement with the GFF, noting that they would be covering the prize monies and fans can look forward to exciting giveaways on every day of the tournament.
”We will be having promotions at every game where we will be having fantastic fan of the game prizes culminating with a grand promotion on January 1st, 2019 where a lucky fan will walk away with something fantastic for the New Year.”
Worrell re-iterated that his company has been involved in a huge way at the grassroots level of the development of the sport and that was the motivation for partnering with the GFF.
”Sponsorship is more or less a short term investment but our partnership is more of a long term nature where we care about investment in our people, the sport and ultimately getting the country involved but technically our involvement is through partnership to make this bigger and better moving forward.”
Worrell is encouraging all fans to come out and support their teams during the tournament.
