Belle century hands GCC 8-wkt win; MYO thump MSC by 111 runs

A fine unbeaten century from Martin Pestano Belle handed Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) an eight-wicket victory over Sophia, while Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) defeated Malteenoes Sports Club by 111 runs when play in the Georgetown Cricket Association New Building Society second division 40-over tournament continued on Sunday last.
Playing at Bourda, Builder’s Lumber Yard Sophia batted first and were sent packing for 139 in 37 overs. Malcolm Morris scored 53 including four fours and three sixes, while Zalim Rasheed got 19; Left arm orthodox spinner Devon Lord claimed 4-21, Chetram Persaud 3-30 and Stephan Wilson 2-43.
Belle then hammered seven fours and a similar number of sixes in scoring 104 to lead GCC to 143-2 in 18 overs in reply. Timothy McAlmont assisted with 17.
Host Muslim Youth Organisation took first strike and posted 248-9 off their allocation of 40 overs. Khemraj Ramdeen struck 13 fours in a top score of 78 and shared in a second wicket stand of 97 with Shafeek Ishmael who made 37. V. Rampersaud and Chien Gittens contributed 37 and 28 respectively as S. Browne claimed 2-29 and Nkosie Barker 2-45.
Malteenoes Sports Club were bowled out for 111 in 24.4 overs in reply. Barker made 33 and Shaquille Moseley 31; Richard Latif captured 3-9, Niran Bissu 2-0 and Gittens 2-34. (Zaheer Mohamed)
