Lusignan Prison escapee Sudesh Dyal was recaptured at about 03:00 hrs yesterday at Tuschen Squatting Area, East Bank Essequibo.
Acting on information, a tactical team led by ‘B’ Divisional Commander Senior Superintendent Edmond Cooper swooped down at the location and apprehended the fugitive without any incident.
Dyal, 23, is the third of three prisoners to have escaped from the Lusignan Holding Bay, on the East Coast Demerara on October 15 by scaling the wall.
The other two escapees Dexroy Pollard and Travis Evans were also recaptured. Murder accused, Travis Evans, age 23 of ‘C’ field Sophia was the first to be nabbed. He was apprehended at the Linden Soesdyke Junction on October 19. Dexroy Pollard was caught on November 1, by a public-spirited citizen at Free and Easy on the West Bank of Demerara.
Since the last two jailbreaks at the Camp Street Prison and at Lusignan Holding Bay, the security forces have taken all necessary steps to recapture those who escaped. All escapees from the Camp Street break were either caught or killed. However, Cobena Stephens a.k.a. OJ and Paul Goriah, who escaped from the Lusignan Prison, remain on the run.
At present, government is constructing another prison in the compound of the Mazaruni Prison to address overcrowding at the prisons in Region Four.
