Barnwell’s ton, Bishun 9-40 spurs visitors to Innings & 66-run win
By Sean Devers
Christopher Barnwell’s third century of the tournament and match haul of 9-40 by left-arm back-of-the-hand spinner Totaram Bishun lead DCC to a successful title defence when they beat Police by an Innings and 66 runs just after Tea yesterday in the final of the GCA’s GISE, Star Party Rental & Trophy Stall two-day First Division Cricket tournament at Eve Leary.
After dismissing Police for 170, DCC began the second day on 240-3 and reached 351 to take a lead of 181 runs and bowled out Police a second time for 115.
Overnight, Barnwell was on 64 and Joshua Persaud on 16 and in overcast conditions Barnwell who continued to play his shots reached his hundred but with the fourth wicket stand worth 55, Persaud (29) was trapped LBW to Raun Johnson at 273-4 before a drizzle halted play for 20 minutes.
On the resumption, the 31-year-old Barnwell, with tons against Everest and UG in the semi-final, was LBW to Kelvin Leitch at 305-5. His dashing 103 lasted 133 balls and was decorated with seven fours and three sixes but only Raymond Perez who made a painstaking 20 from 80 balls, of the other batsmen reached double figures.
Leg spinner Vishal Jaigobin (4-50), Johnson (2-85) and off-spinner Jason Heyliger (2-87) were the wicket takers for Police who suffered a batting collapse in the second innings as Andrew Lyght, with two fours and two sixes in his top score of 31 fell to Bishun for the second time of the match.
But only Paul Tyndell, who followed his first innings half-century with 21 and Pernell London (24), reached double figures
