Guyana Police Force corporal Cordis Joseph died around noon yesterday after crashing the car he had borrowed on Company Road, Aroaima trail (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Joseph, 33, was driving Toyota Raum, PPP 4196, when he lost control and the vehicle toppled. He was reportedly flung from the vehicle.
The trail is said to be in a deplorable state, and persons who spoke to Kaieteur News were at a loss to say why the rank was not more cautious.
Kaieteur News understands that Joseph, who was off duty, had borrowed a friend’s car and was heading to the Aroaima Water Front when he crashed, Police ranks have been involved in a number of fatal accidents this year.
In August, Martinez Raphael, a motorcyclist, died a week after a collision with a police vehicle at Second Avenue, Bartica.
The following month, Ryan Persaud, a 23-year-old police constable was driving a Guyana Police Force minibus on Mandela Avenue when he struck 23-year-old motorcyclist Akemo Anthony, who died in the accident.
In October, Superintendent of Police, Patrick Todd, the officer was charged with causing the death of 64-year-old pedal cyclist, Conrad Alleyne.
The pedal cyclist was killed near Boerasirie, West Coast Demerara.
Todd was charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
