He is recognised as a very successful businessman, focusing mainly in the infrastructural and aviation sectors, but Brian Tiwari, who celebrates his 60th Birth Anniversary on November 23, has a similar reputation for his support for sports.
To this end, former national player/coach Lennox Arthur has organized a tournament to honour the significant achievement of Tiwari with the staging of the Brian Tiwari Inter-Ward / Village Knockout Cup scheduled to kickoff tomorrow, at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground, West Coast Demerara.
According to Arthur, teams from West Demerara, East Coast Demerara, Georgetown and East Bank Demerara have been invited to participate in the two-day competition.
Arthur added that Tiwari over the years has been one of the most consistent sponsors of football and sports in general and as a result of his unwavering support for tournaments such as the Mayor’s Cup and the Annual Hamilton Green Birthday KO Cup he thinks that it is only fitting for him to organize a special event in his honour.
Among the teams listed to participate in the tournament are: Sophia, Wales, Plaisance, Lima Dam, Crane, Timehri, Zeelugt, Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke, Den Amstel and Bagotsville.
The Organisers have scheduled six matches for opening day with hosts Den Amstel slated to appear in the feature clash against Bagotsville.
The other fixtures are: Sophia versus Wales from 16:00hrs; Plaisance vs. Lima Dam at 16:30hrs; Crane vs. Timehri from 17:00hrs; Kuru Kururu vs. Zeelugt at 17:30hrs and Den Amstel (Back Street} vs. Soesdyke at 18:00hrs.
Prize monies totaling in excess of $150,000 and trophies will be up for grabs with the winning team set to receive $100,000 and runner-up $50,000.
The final will be played on December 2, at the same venue.
