The stage is set for one final game tonight that will conclude the Upper Demerara Football Association’s GTT Senior 2017/18 League Championship when unbeaten clubs Eagles United and Net Rockers collide with unbeaten records to decide who will have the crown and bragging rights at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
On the heels of the thrilling 3-2 Friday night win by Eagles United over Amelia’s Ward Panthers, it means that they and the Amelia’s Ward Panthers have played with unblemished records to gain 21 points from seven straight wins and play their final game against each other to determine the winners.
Eagles had to resist Panthers after they had grabbed the lead through Kwesi Quintin in the 9th minute, but that was erased by a penalty from Kelvin Neblette in the 17thminute after referee Shavin Green adjudged a foul tackle in the box against the Eagles defender.
Eagles would regain the lead through Colwyn Drakes but that 32ndminute goal would be cancelled through another strike this time off the boot of Jevon Lafleur for the Panthers and the first half ended even 2-2.
However, the Eagles side would nudge into the lead for good off the boot of Deron Charter in the 56thminute and despite several chances which went both ways the score would remain the same for an Eagles win.
In the earlier game played, Botafago would gain a 2-1 victory over Winners Connection after Antoine Gill registered both goals in the 81st and 86thminutes after Winners Connection had taken a lead in the 47th minute.
Net Rockers have a strong side with the likes of Denzil Pryce and Clarence Huggins leading their charge with the schemers surrounding Randy Wills and Joel Isaacs and Deshawn Joseph, while in the back line are Omeion Wills and Mark Wilson, while in goal is Compton Bennet.
Eagles will place emphasis on Kello Primo, Deron Charter and Colwyn Drakes with Clive DeNobrega and Omar Brewley in midfield, while Romain Adams and Benny Neblett will steady up the defence and Yannick Simon in goal.
That game will be preceded by the Botafago versus Hi Stars game at 19.00hrs.
