After months of cricket among 24 teams in the Upper Corentyne and Black Bush Areas, the finalists of the much anticipated Ramnaresh Sarwan/ Upper Corentyne Cricket Association 40-overs Second Division cricket competition has been decided. The final, which will be played today at the No 72 Cut and Load Ground, will bring together two cricket teams from the No72 area.
The competition, which is sponsored by Former West Indies Captain and batting star Ramnaresh “Ronnie” Sarwan, has being organised by the Upper Corentyne Cricket Association (UCCA) and is for teams in the Upper Corentyne and Black Bush areas that are affiliated to the UCCA.
The final will be played between No 72 All Stars and No 72 Cut and Load.
The venue is expected to be packed to capacity since both teams are from the same area. The game is expected to be highly competitive with both teams playing good all round cricket throughout the competition.
One semifinal was scheduled for last Sunday between No 72 All Stars and No 69 Vikings. No 69 Vikings failed to show up for the game thus giving No 72 All Stars a walk over to the final.
Play is expected to begin at 10:00 hrs. President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) Hilbert Foster and representatives of Sarwan’s family are expected to be in attendance to witness the match and assist with the presentation ceremony which is expected to follow immediately after. (Samuel Whyte)
