Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence is perturbed by reports of persons using her name to solicit cash from unsuspecting citizens in exchange for house lots.
Lawrence, the Chair of the People’s National Congress, told Kaieteur News that an investigation is underway after a report was made to the police.
“The matter is with the police. I know they are investigating it, because it was one number and now they have changed and are using another two numbers. And they have collected millions of dollars from people,” Lawrence stated.
According to Lawrence, she received two calls yesterday. One was from a woman who had transferred money, while the other woman had not followed through on the instructions provided by the scammers.
“What are they doing? It’s not just people in Georgetown. It’s people all across the country… and they are getting vulnerable people,” Lawrence stated.
It appears that the scammers are capitalising on the published information, where Lawrence had assisted a group of residents from Enmore who had applied for house lots and had been waiting for years.
Lawrence was instrumental in assisting the residents meet with Minister with responsibility for the Central Housing and Planning Authority, Ms. Valerie Patterson. Their land issues were resolved.
