Eight US-based Guyanese were robbed of valuable possessions worth millions of dollars, yesterday.
Vashti Sakur, one of the eight, told Kaieteur News that the group arrived at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) for the memorial service of a deceased relative, and to spend a year in Guyana. The group took two minibuses to Georgetown and decided to stop at Kamboat Restaurant on Albert Street, Alberttown around 12:00 hrs.
After having lunch at the restaurant, the group walked out of the restaurant to find the window to one of their buses open. Missing from the bus were personal items, handbags, backpacks, passports, green cards, jewelry, laptops, an apple watch and move than seven cellular phones. The group estimates losses to be in the millions.
A man standing opposite the restaurant told the group that he had seen two men on bicycles loitering around the bus. Reports of robberies have been on the increase since October, and police say that they expect many more throughout the Christmas season.
