New Amsterdam United cemented their place at the top of the Berbice leg of the GFF-Always National Women’s Development League last weekend, with a 2-0 win over West Side Conquerors.
Fruta Conquerors ‘A’ continued their dominance of the Georgetown leg, putting four past Foxy Ladies without reply. In Mahdia, Micam Eagles ‘A’ drew 1-1 with Mahdia Gold Getters to leave Micam Eagles ‘B’ clear at the top of that leg.
The national league, featuring a record 49 teams competing in shorter format and seven-a-side matches, is part of the GFF’s strategy to develop women’s football, alongside girls’ participation in the GFF-Kool Kidz Grassroots national programme and nationwide GFF-Scotiabank Academy Training Centres.
Sponsored by Always, official beverage partner ICool (Ansa McAl) and Gaico Construction, the competition will take place in all 10 Administrative Regions, seeking to grow the player population, and to establish the foundations for talent identification and a player pathway into the national teams.
