Powerlifting fans are bracing for what is anticipated to be an explosive day when the Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) brings off its marquee event, the Senior Nationals which will be held on Sunday December 2 next at Saints Stanislaus College Auditorium from 10:00hrs.
According to a federation release, this competition is the most anticipated event of the year since the competing athletes (vying for the Best Male and Female Lifter titles) will all be seeking to secure qualifying Wilks Totals which will enable them to be shortlisted for the 2019 National
Team.
At this competition, there will be for the first time in Guyana’s history, two women in the 84+kg category competing for the title of Best Female Lifter. Runita White, the best female lifter for Intermediates National Championship 2018 and Natoya Robinson, the best female lifter for Raw Nationals 2018 are expected to take the platform by storm.
Participating athletes for Flight ‘A’ are required to be at the venue for 08:00hrs sharp for the weigh-in which will last until 09:30hrs for this Flight. Athletes competing in Flight B will be weighed in from 11:30 hrs.
Tickets cost $1,000 and can be purchased directly from GAPLF Executive Members, or Buddy’s Gym. The entrance fee at the gate for this event will be $1,500. Athletes who are interested in competing for Senior Nationals 2018 are required to download their application form from the GAPLF’s official facebook page, for submission along with the required competition fees.
All registration forms and monies should be submitted to GAPLF Committee Member, Martin Webster. Alternatively, payment for this competition can be made directly to the federation’s Republic Bank Account – #6552194 – with a confirming screenshot of the completed registration form along with the confirming banking deposit slip, being electronically submitted to Mr. Webster.
Other athletes set to compete are 2018 NAPF Overall Champion Carlos Petterson, Vijai Rahim, 93kg junior sensation Bishen Sasenarine, 2018 Novices Overall champ Timothy Bagla, the Babb sisters, Grace and Blossom and Noel Cummings the nation’s oldest competing athlete.
