Following the successful staging of its Linden Inter Church Knock Out Futsal competition on Diwali Day at the Mackenzie Sports Club, the organisers have planned to stage the competition annually.
Pastor Selwyn Sills’ Praise Tabernacle Assembly of God Church, situated in Watooka, Mackenzie Linden, decided to stage the inaugural tournament to widen the base of sport for those involved in the faith. It was also viewed as an opportunity to bring together the brethren in an atmosphere which is conducive to their spreading of the gospel and at the same time have fellowship.
Some twelve teams participated and from all reports it was well received.
Played under the brand of the main sponsor Banks DIH and its Rain Forest Water Brand, Manager Clive Pellew, Member of Parliament Jermaine Figuiera and Deputy Mayor of Linden Wainwright Bethune were there in attendance and an appreciative turnout where there was a simple ceremony to open the tournament.
The first semifinals was played between Kingdom Restoration Ministries’ side ‘Two Pint Kero’ and Grace Ballers and won by Kingdom Ministries 7-3, while the second resulted in Praise Prapa Pensioners’ (PPP) under the prayerful captain Pastor Sills whipped Chapel Ballers 4-0.
The final match was keenly contested between the Praise Prapa Pensioners and ‘Two Pint Kero’ and at the end of regulation time the score was 1-1.
‘Two Pint Kero’ from Kingdom Restoration Ministries however, prevailed in the end to be victors from kicks from the penalty mark 5-3.
In the third place match Grace Ballers defeated Chapel Ballers 4-2.
