Topp XX by virtue of three second half goals from Ryan Noel whipped Silver Shattas 3-0 but both teams headed out of the Upper Demerara Football Association’s GTT 2017-18 GTT Senior Football Championship which continued last Sunday night at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground; while Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Winners Connection played to a 0-0 stalemate.
It was an important win by Topp XX who ended on similar points with the Shattas, mirroring similar records of two wins one drawn game and five losses, for their seven points. Noel found the back of the nets first in the 55th minute after play resumed from a nil all first half.
He capitalized on the accurate delivery by Keon Hall into the centre area on top of the 18 yards box where he planted a shot that zoomed through to hit the net in the far right side corner. That would be followed by one that was sent by Rudy Halley which was received by Noel inside the six yard box for him to nudge it past the Shattas goalkeeper as it was 2-0 in the 83rd minute.
By now the Shattas were hanging in with the hope of first reducing the deficit but that would be placed beyond the reach of a Shattas side which could not resist the offensive play of the Topp XX unit.
It was capped when Rudy Halley claimed a pass from the left wing and as he headed into the 18 yard zone he was fouled in the process which was punished by the referee. This facilitated Noel the chance for a hat-trick on the night. He took the spot kick and it sent Topp XX into a 3-0 advantage their never relinquished in the 87th minute as they ran out to an emphatic win.
The other game of the night petered out to a score-less between the Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Winners Connection, despite some near misses on both sides of the field.
