Mc Gill and Independence ‘A’ have secured their places in the semi finals of the West Demerara Cricket Association 50-over tournament after
recording victories in their respective quarterfinal games last Sunday.
At Canal Number Two, Mc Gill Super Stars defeated Christ Ambassador by 34 runs. Mc Gill Super Stars batted first and scored 180 all out in 38.5 overs. Shafiek Deen made 36, Sudesh Persaud and Prahalad Singh got 28 each and Abdool Razack 24. Kenton Boyce picked up 3-25, Immanuel Martin 3-30 and Joel Thomas 2-35. Christ Ambassador scored 146 all out in 32.1 overs in response. C. Sam made 70 including eight fours while D. Ross got 15 and M. Alert 13. Travis Persaud captured 4-25 while there were two each for Razack, Diquan Murray and Sudesh Persaud.
At Wales, Independence ‘A’ beat the host by six wickets. The home team took first turn at the crease and were sent packing for 110 in 24 overs. Ryan Shun made 31 while Yogendra Singh got 21 as Ceenauth Bisessar took 2-24. In reply Independence ‘A’ reached 111-4 in 20 overs. Jevon Hector made 43 not out with three fours and four sixes while Anand Bharat contributed 24; Randy Yankhana took 3-24.
At Joe Vieira Park, Cornelia Ida defeated Met-en-Meer Zorg by 64 runs in their last preliminary round game. Batting first after winning the toss Cornelia Ida managed 156 all out in 23.2 overs. Akshaya Persaud struck 81 with six fours and five sixes while Richie Looknauth made 33. Kevin Coleman bagged 6-17 and Levi Miggins 4-23.
Met-En- Meer Zorg were bowled out for 92 in 22.5 overs in reply. Coleman made 33 and Miggins 18; Looknauth grabbed 5-46 while Harinarine Bissondyal had 3-14 and Persaud 2-11.
The competition continues on Sunday with more quarterfinal action. Rising Stars will play Cornelia Ida at Wales (M. Ernest and I. Etwaroo) and Independence ‘B’ will take on Zeeburg at Joe Vieira Park (Andrew Singh and Nandkumar Shivsankar).
