Dear Editor,
THAG’S office has been very kind to me over the years in sharing copies of their annual magazines to distribute overseas. I hope they will continue in doing so. My contribution is from an observation perspective and let me make it absolutely clear that I don’t possess a University Degree of any kind with relation to Tourism or Marketing.
Neither do I possess any title before my name and could never qualify to ever become a member of its board. I speak from an independent standpoint as an observer from the sidewalk who has been making my simple contribution towards the marketing of dear land of Guyana.
However, via social media, I learnt of the launching of their annual Explore Guyana Magazine 2019 and I was in total shock that the cover design did not wow me. I believe it was flat and not sure if such a marketing tool will continue to attract scores of potential visitors in the near future.
Hands down, THE BRITISH GUIANA BLACK MAGENTA STAMP (world’s rarest stamp) in my opinion should be given preference to one day grace the cover of the magazine in question.
Thank goodness for the Guyana Philatelic Society which is pretty young in operation and making every effort to continuously educate the public at large and the world over about the world’s rarest stamp which was printed during the era of BRITISH GUIANA, NOW GUYANA, and the machine which is currently housed in the Guyana Museum on display.
Miss Ann Wood (California-based), President of the Guyana Philatelic Society and her team must be applauded for their education programme. I hope one day THAG in collaboration with the GUYANA PHILATELIC SOCIETY can collaborate and make me very proud to witness the BRITISH GUIANA BLACK MAGENTA STAMP given its rightful place for the cover design of the Explore Guyana Magazine.
Is IWOKRAMA still in existence in Guyana?
With absolutely no affiliation, I have always contended that IWOKRAMA deserves to be considered for the cover design of Explore Guyana Magazine which to date has never materialised. It has never been given the opportunity to rise from where it stands to become a household name. Though I have never managed to visit, I am no longer sure if they are still in operation or has become a white elephant.
It is evident that there is a special process taken by THAG in deciding what goes on the cover design and it’s the magazine’s God given right. Please don’t take my observation as a criticism and no disrespect to the photographer who produced the cover design for the 2019 edition.
Yours Faithfully
