Following the postponement of last Sunday’s round of matches due to the inclement weather, play in this year’s Hamilton Green 9-a-side Inter-Ward/ Village KO Cup is set to resume on Sunday with twelve matches, at the Den Amstel Community Centre ground.
The former Mayor of Georgetown celebrates his 84th Birth Anniversary today and is an avid sports enthusiast who played football while attending Queens College.
He also held the posts of Prime Minister and Minister of Sport among other high ranking portfolios under the Forbes Burnham administration.
According to Co-ordinator Lennox Arthur, who is a former national player/Head Coach, Sunday’s round of matches will mark the penultimate day of action with the final set to be staged on November 24, at the same venue.
In the opening game at 15:00hrs, Mahaica take on Kuru Kururu and this encounter will be followed by the clash between Central McKenzie and Wolves at 15:30hrs.
In the third game, Sophia ‘B’ tackle Wales, while Charlestown and Vergenoegen collide from 16:30hrs.
Zeelugt then go up against Mahaicony from 17:00hrs, while Sara Lodge and Agricola square off immediately after.
Stewartville then match strides with Sophia ‘A’, while Goed Fortuin and Newtown, Kitty meet at 18:30hrs.
In the encounter to follow, Crane battles Plaisance from 19:00hrs, before Pouderoyen and West Side Masters take to the field at 19:30hrs.
The penultimate game is between Uitvlugt and Jetty, before hosts Den Amstel and De Kindren bring the curtains down at 20:30hrs.
Prize monies in excess of $700,000 and lots of prizes, including the coveted first prize of $400,000 and the championship trophy compliments of the Ministry of Citizenship are up for grabs.
The runner-up will be awarded $200,000 and trophy through the goodwill of John Fernandes Ltd, while third and fourth place finishers will receive $60,000 and $40,000 respectively along with the Techno Mills and Courtney Benn Construction Services trophies in that order.
Top finishers will receive hampers compliments of Ricks & Sari Industries, while the Highest Goalscorer will walk away with a Lazy Boy Chair courtesy of AH&L Kissoon and a Dinette Set compliments of China Trading.
The Most Valuable Player will be awarded a special prize from Techno Mills.
Among the other sponsors on board are: IPA, Alfro Alphonso, Sattaur Gafoor, Ansa McAl, Top Brandz Distributors, MACORP, Starr Computers, Cummings Electrical, Ready Mix, BK International and New Thriving Restaurant.
