Santos Football Club and Buxton United played to the third consecutive 3-1 result of the 2018 edition of the Turbo Energy drink football tournament for Second Division clubs being competed at the Ministry of Education (MOE) ground, while last year’s finalists, Police FC rolled over Beacons 7-2 in the night’s feature clash.
Police FC, fresh off their win in the just concluded Limacol football tournament, disposed of Gordon ‘Ultimate Warrior’ Braithwaite’s Beacons FC in enterprising fashion, spearheaded by a helmet-trick from Manasseh Primo. Primo added a brace in both halves with his goals coming in the 34th, 44th, 70th and 74th minutes.
Anthio Wallace and Stephan Ramsey added one goal each for Police in the 39th and 83rd minutes respectively, while an own goal in 37th minute helped the final tally to seven goals.
Deon Alfred (27th) and Kiefer Brandt (60th) scored the consolations for Beacons.
Meanwhile, in the opening match, Samuel Dey (22nd), Ronaldo Dover (49th) and an own goal in the 25th minute accounted for Santos’ three goals that were superior to Buxton United’s one which was scored by Tyron Harper in the 60th minute.
Santos and Police will join Riddim Squad and Northern Rangers as the first four teams to have qualified for the quarterfinals in this knockout competition which has seen a total of $1.5 million in cash prizes up for grabs with the winners pocketing $800,000, second place $400,000, third $200,000 and fourth $100,000.
The tournament continues on Monday with two more matches at the same venue from 18:30hrs with Limacol finalists Pouderoyen playing Buxton Stars in that opening clash. The feature match will kick off at 20:30hrs and will see Mahaica Determinators matching skills with Fruta Conquerors.
